New Zealand has one of the best wind sources in the world. Vector is undertaking a ground breaking New Zealand trial to test the latest technology in urban micro-wind generation. This project explores what part micro-wind turbines can play in the changing energy environment, particularly in the area of renewable distributed power generation.

Vector is partnering with Scottish company Renewable Devices Swift Turbines Ltd, an established developer and manufacturer of micro-wind turbines. Installation of these award winning micro turbines is already well underway in the UK and in other countries.

The Swift micro-wind turbine has been designed for local communities and will be mounted at a number of different sites, with the first being the Waitakere City Council building in Henderson, Auckland. We are also working with Wellington City Council to identify sites.
